2018-19 Fulbright fellowship announcements

 

USIEF has announced its annual competition for Fulbright-Nehru, Fulbright-Kalam and other fellowships for Indian citizens for the academic year 2018-19.

The different categories of fellowships and disciplines are given below. The eligibility criteria, application procedure, guidelines and the selection process are given on our website: www.usief.org.in.

  • Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships – Application due date: July 17, 2017

 

These fellowships are for faculty and research scholars, who have obtained their doctoral degree in the last four years, to pursue a postdoctoral research fellowship in the U.S. for 8 to 24 months.

The eligible fields of study for the Fulbright Nehru Doctoral and Postdoctoral fellowships are:

Agricultural Sciences; Bioengineering; Computer Science (with emphasis on cyber security and digital economy); Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; International Law; International Security and Strategic Studies; Materials Science (with emphasis on environmental applications); Neurosciences; Public Health; Public Policy; Study of India (limited to anthropology, history, sociology, and visual and performing arts); Study of the United States (limited to anthropology, history, sociology, and visual and performing arts); Urban and Regional Planning (with emphasis on smart cities and waste management); Women’s and Gender Studies.

  • Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships – Application due date: July 17, 2017

This fellowship is meant for faculty, professionals and senior researchers, and provides an opportunity to teach and/or research at a U.S university for 4 to 9 months. One can opt for the Flex award if they want to split the grant time into 2 parts – each part no less than 1 month and no more than 3 months.

  • Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowships – Application due date: July 17, 2017

Aimed at building long-term capacity in climate research, the Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowships provides opportunities to talented faculty and researchers to strengthen their research capabilities. Under this category, students registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution by August 1, 2016 can apply for a six to nine month fellowship. In addition, Indian faculty and researchers who have obtained their doctoral degree in the last four years, can apply for a Postdoctoral research for eight to twelve months.

  • Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar – Application due date: February 28, 2017


This is a two-week program in the U.S. in October 2017 for mid- to senior-level Indian college and university administrators who have at least two years of experience in international program development at their institutions. The applicant should have substantial responsibility for enhancing the international dimension of their institutions, and must aim to build capacity of their faculty and students through international collaborations and exchange and innovative curricular design. A total of 10 Indian higher education administrators will be selected for this program which will include visits to U.S. universities/colleges, panel discussions and networking events, giving them an opportunity to learn about curriculum development, globalization of education, teaching methodologies and faculty/student exchanges.

  • Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowships – Application due date: June 15, 2017

This is a prestigious 10-month fellowship for young and mid-career professionals, policy makers, planners, administrators, and managers in the government, public and private sectors, and NGOs for professional development in the fields of Agricultural and Rural Development; Communications/Journalism; Economic Development; Educational Administration, Planning and Policy; Finance and Banking; Higher Education Administration; HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention; Human Resource Management; Law and Human Rights; Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change; Public Health Policy and Management; Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration; Substance Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention; Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (Teacher Training or Curriculum Development); Technology Policy and Management; Trafficking in Persons, Policy and Prevention; Urban and Regional Planning.

  • International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) – Application due date: April 3, 2017

 

2017 ILEP is for full time school teachers (grades 6 to 12) teaching English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and Special Education at schools in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telengana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Please note that this competition is open only to teachers from the states mentioned above and not the rest of India. This U.S. Government sponsored program provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.

  • The Fulbright Specialist Program for Indian Institutions – Application due date: April 15, 2017

The Fulbright Specialist Program provides an opportunity to Indian universities and institutions of higher learning, to invite U.S. scholars and professionals to their campus for a period of 2 weeks to 6 weeks, to draw on the expertise of U.S. scholars and professionals and develop linkages with American institutions.
